Building a working arcade game into a retail site, because the person who decides is not the person who pays.
A shop that makes its money from birthday parties and foot traffic has two users with completely different jobs. The parent needs an address, a set of hours, three prices, and a booking form that actually confirms. The child needs a reason to ask to go back.
Conventional wisdom says cut everything that does not serve conversion. Conventional wisdom is measuring the wrong person. The adult converts, but the child initiates, and there is no form field for that.
So the site is seven pages of ruthless clarity for the buyer, one of which is a real falling-block game — score, levels, a hold box, a next queue, keyboard controls, and touch buttons. It is not a widget. It took real time. It is the only thing on that site that anybody under twelve will remember.
